Charles, You might want to contact the cemetery where James L. Lockley is buried. Since he died on April 2nd, 1923 the cemetery might know who placed his Confederate marker there and when? If so you might be able to gain information as to where they received their information?

And since Melissa died in December of 1948 there may still be people in the area who knew her?

If James also listed his unit as the 2nd Texas I would lean on the unit being the 2nd Battalion Texas Cavalry State Troops. In my opinion the roster for the 2nd Battalion Texas Cavalry State Troops are incomplete.

I also believe in what James L. Lockley said on his pension records. From me to speculate as to how and when and why he listed two units would be a disservice to you and to him.
