Note, he must have been dropped from the rolls for some unknown reason during the first seven months of 1864 as his name was not recorded on the Sep/Oct, 1864 muster roll

* This company was known at various times as Captain Thomas’ Company, Waul’s Texas Legion Volunteers; Captain Rowland’s Company and Company A, Cavalry Battalion, Waul’s Texas Legion; and as Company A, Wills’ Battalion Texas Cavalry

After the fall of Vicksburg (July 4, 63') the cavalry battalion served east of the Mississippi River and still retained the name of Waul's Legion, but it was also known as Willis' Battalion Texas Cavalry. Some of its members, who had become separated from their command and were serving in the Trans-Mississippi Department, were organized in 1864 into Steel's Command Texas Cavalry.
