Charles, You probably are aware of your descendants much better than any one else here on the board. But to help clarify some issues this is what I've located. It appears to me that Vernon Lockley was the father of James. I say this because of the 1850 United States census which listed Vernon H. Lockley as the head of the household and living with what appears to be his wife; Frances with two other household members James L. Lockley age four and born in Florida and Eli B. Lockley age two who was listed as born in Louisiana. The surname was listed as Lochly but corrected to Lockley by the person listing the census. The family was noted as living in Bossier Parish, Louisiana. Vernon H. Lockley was noted as born about 1826 and born in South Carolina. Frances was listed as age twenty-three and born in Florida.

BTW Find A Grave Memorial# 15295803 shows a listing for a James Leven Lockley and listed his death as April 2, 1923 which means he should have a death certificate. By obtaining his death certificate you might be able to confirm his father's name and I would lean toward it being Vernon. Also James's wife name was
Melissa Isabel Baggett Lockley (1851 - 1948) again according to Find A Grave. James also has a Confederate marker. It listed his unit as being in Troop A of the 2nd Battalion Confederate Cavalry. It appears this was a six month unit in 1863-64.

I don't know why but James Lockley is living with another household in the 1860 United States census. He was noted as age thirteen and born in Florida and living in Milam County, Texas with the nearest Post Office as Nashville, Texas. Some family histories of the Denard family suggest that Frances's maiden name was Denard which would might make sense because James Lockley is living in the Denard household in 1860.

Today Nashville, Texas is a ghost town. I am not a genealogist by a long shot but those are my findings.
