You are correct. 2nd Battalion of Cavalry was a poor choice of words on my part. I realized that after I posted it. James probably meant the Cavalry Detachment when he wrote "Co.A.2nd Texas,Willis Battalion,Wauls' Legion" on his pension app. I assumed that the Cavalry & Artillery units were connected to both(or either) the 1st & 2nd Battalions of Infantry, since Wauls'Texas was classified as a Legion. According to it's structure the Cavalry Detachment was led by Lt.Thomas Cleveland at Vicksburg.......Was Co.A included? James also wrote "Not Transferred". I could not find them in Gen.N.B.Forrest's command. I feel that it's open to conjecture how the men might have identified their units.
