Lt.Col. Patrick (5th Iowa Cav.) commanding 7 companies(5th Iowa) and garrison troops from Ft. Donelson, went on a 5 day foraging expedition May 19-23 1863. Upon return march, Co. A 5th Iowa had a skirmish with rebels, in which Capt. Paul had his horse killed and himself slightly wounded. Rebels pursude but escaped.

James B. Dunigan of Dickson co; stated in his testimony; that the band of men that fought in the skirmish by his impression were a band of men not in the Southern service-citizens in part.
Now the skirmish that i detailed in my previous post stated the rebels belonged to Cox'
command. I know that this command was an authorized unit and would appear in
uniform of a Southern soldier

Its difficult to state if both skirmshes on Yellow Creek on May 22, 1863 are the same.As Yellow crek extends into Montogomery county and maybe further, i don' t know for sure.
