There is a biographical summary of RJ Spicer on p. 149. There are several letters in support of Spicer starting on p. 136 and a petition in his support on p. 132. Ellen C's testimony starts on p. 109. There is a lot of info about Spicer throughout the text; see especially the testimony of Pvt. Meece, Lt. Curry and Cpt. Dever in Ch 2 and Ch. 3 (as I recall).

Two questions: 1) Do you know the exact location of where Spicer lived during the war? It was very close to his soon to be new wife, Ellen C. and to his business partner Squire Crowell (Squire Crowell was the brother of one of my GG Grandfathers, John Crowell; another of my GG Grandfathers is Aaron James, the subject of the first trial). See also the testimony of Squire Crowell on p. 111. Good reqading; 2) Did Spicer own slaves? There is a Jonas Spicer listed as a slave owner in the early 1850s in Humphreys Co. but probably his ?father???? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. By the way I did not know the "R." in R.
