Re: "The Skirmish at the Irish Shanty"(Book)
Just finished reading, and would make a great film! I'm moved by several things, that Mary Box Spicer likely died in childbirth, and Jonas' reputation as a man of good character, kindness, and integrity brought such support in the petition from the community. Whether or not he fired at the soldiers really isn't the point, but that the community demonstrated such support. Interesting also that he remarried Eleanor Choate (the "blooming buxom lass"), who is the sister of Rufus Choate, who married Jonas' daughter Amanda. I realize the story is much larger than this and affected the lives of so many others, but I fully appreciate the relevance it brings to my family. Thank you for your diligent work and scholarly research!
