Alan, I trust your address has nothing to do with Joe Arpaio's tent city. LOL I've been on a research run in 6 different cities in 7 days in 4 different states. Papers are really getting mixed together. According to the Nashville Dispatch newspaper a N.J. Rives was wounded and taken as a prisoner with the 54th Tennessee also. However, I can't locate him as having a CMSR at this time. In a few weeks when I have time to go through all the paper work I'll try and list the prisoners taken with the 2nd Mississippi at Shiloh. Keep in mind that these prisoners were reported as wounded and how many were just taken prisoner I have no idea if any. There are at least two or three that I know of that are listed as wounded and being taken as prisoners with the 2nd Mississippi at Shiloh. I have not had a chance yet to confirm their existence with the 2nd Mississippi Infantry insofar as CMSR's with the exception of one who started off the thread "Expert needed with the 2nd Mississippi Infantry" This is some prior research I had done on the soldier who was buried at the Camp Chase Cemetery. "GRAVE 2142 AT CAMP CHASE READS- 1ST LIEUT. J.R. TURNEY COMPANY K 2ND MISSISSIPPI CSA
Grave 2142 may be Private J.R. Turner Company K 2nd Mississippi Infantry. Shot at Shiloh taken to Camp Dennison died May 11, 1862. The issue of concern is that the 2nd MS Inf. was not at the battle of Shiloh. Tombstone lists J.R. Turney Co.K 2nd MS Inf. It could also be Private I.R. Turney of Company I 2nd Confederate Infantry. This unit was at Shiloh and he is listed as being killed at the battle. In May of 1869 Captain Irving of the United States Quartermasters Department reinterred his body along with 30 other Confederate soldiers from the Waldschmidt Cemetery and interred them at the Camp Chase Cemetery." There were many Confederate officers listed as dying at Camp Dennison who were re-interred to Camp Chase. However, all but one turned out to be enlisted, and his name was Lieutenant Robinson. Alan, I don't know how things will play out but they should with some time. As I'm sure you are aware of Beauregards's general order number 14 read to his army prior to the battle of Shiloh mentioned that anyone helping his comrade during battle was subject to be shot during an advance. This may help to explain why so many wounded Confederates were left for dead at Shiloh and then ended up in Northern military hospitals. Thx for all of your past help and your dedication to accurate history Alan. Dennis
