I have gone through all of the Tennessee Questionnaires, all of the Confederate Veterans with "Fort Donelson" listed in the index, and many other sources. I have only gone to the pension records on Fold3 a few times --- and mostly for Federals. Have documented 444 cases of Confederate POW's escaping from prison and 13 documented escaping en route. Sure appreciate your suggestions --- got any more??
Shiloh is such a special place. I first remember going there over 60 years ago. My great grandfather was there in Company I, 1st Tennessee. Had Colonel George Maney not had them lie down as a Union regiment was ready to fire as they went across the Peach Orchard, I probably would not be writing this today.
