54th Tennessee at Shiloh?

Let me start off by saying if this topic has been covered or researched, I offer a pre-apology. While doing the short biographies of the dead soldiers at the Camp Chase Confederate Cemetery I ran across Private William H. Cunningham. One soldier does not make a company nor a regiment however sometimes where there is smoke there may be fire. It appears Private Cunningham enlisted in John D. Ives Company in November of 1861 in Lawrence County Tennessee. On February 5, 1862 while at Nashville, Tennessee some of the companies of the 54th Regiment Tennessee Infantry because of the urgency of the time period and location were dispatched to problem areas for the Confederacy before the regiment could be mustered into service. Sometime in April of 1862 the 54th Tennessee was consolidated with the 48th Tennessee Infantry (Nixon's) Ives Company of the 54th then became Company I of the 48th. Some consolidations did happen after the fall of Fort Donelson, Tennessee with various units. The history of the 54th Tennessee after Nashville, Tennessee does not exist as far as I can see. Nor is there a specific date in April of 1862 for the consolidation with the 48th Tennessee. What does peak my interest is that according to the Camp Chase Prison Records Private William H. Cunningham was wounded and taken prisoner at Pittsburgh Landing on April 7, 1862 and he was listed as being with the 54th Tennessee. He was taken to a hospital along the Ohio River by steamer and then forwarded to the Camp Chase Prison where he died in May of 1862. However, just because he was listed as being captured at Shiloh does not mean he was at the battle but it does open the door for the possibility. Nor does this mean that Company Ives, 54th Tennessee was at Shiloh. It does open the door however to further research for those of you who might want to explore other members of Ives Company through their Compiled Military Service Records and to try to understand what happened with the Company. Officially, the 54th Tennessee was not at Shiloh. Perhaps the Camp Chase Prison Records made a mistake, or perhaps this was just an isolated issue with Private William H. Cunningham. My hands are full with doing Camp Chase however a few of you might want to explore this issue into greater detail.
