Re: confederate regiments at Little Round Top

I visited Gettysburg Dec. 7th and 8th just past, two bitterly cold days. Like many in this discussion, I was there to learn the movements of the Alabamians, particularly the 4th Alabama on the right (Co. E, The Sparta Guards from Conecuh County) and Co. C, 5th Ala. (Capt. Riley's Co. from Monroe County) on the left (Oak Hill). The ranger placed the Confederates under intense fire from Berdan's Sharpshooters after moving from Warfield Ridge in the direction of one of Sickles Artillery units (Smith's Battery) in possession of rise beside the Devils Den. In my discussion with the ranger at LRT, he suggested that the "actual Confederate advance on the Federal left flank" was at the modern road sign for Wright's Ave. In his description of the advance against Chamberlain, the ranger suggested that each movement by the 15th Ala. pushed to the right and moved towards the back of the hill. He stated that the 15th flag was planted at the boulder behind the Federal left flank marker. The line from R-L: Right flank:15th AL. 47th AL. 4th AL. 5th TX. 4th TX. 48th AL. 44th AL. Left flank. The ranger said the 44th and 47th struck towards Devils Den with elements of Benning's GA. regiments and continued against the Federal right on LRT. The 4th TX. moved against the Federal right on LRT, the 16th MN. The 5th TX. moved against the next unit in line, the 44th NY, and the 4th AL. 47th AL. and 15th AL. moved against the 2 Federal units on the Union left. The 4th AL. hit the 83rd PA right and center and the 47th hit the 83rd PA center and left. The 15th AL. attacked the 20th ME. I specifically asked where most casualties from the 4th would have occurred. He suggested it was likely in the area known as the Slaughter Pen and Plum Run. I distinctly remember the ranger stating that Confederate dead from each unit were strung from Warfield Ridge but especially numerous from the rise where Smith's Battery was positioned to the level of Plum Run all along the length before LRT.
