Thank you for your clarification. I can only find, as you point out, that he was recommended by the Governor and others, but as you said, no brigade was available. He was not convicted by court marshal or charged with killing Dr. Maffit. He became a State Representative, lawyer and Judge in Whitfield County.

He died at age 70 and is buried In Dalton, Ga.
