Re: The court martial of Colonel Jesse A. Glenn

Mr. Brooke,

The only personnel that were taken to Mobile were the sick and wounded that could not walk. The rest walked to Enterprise, Mississippi.

The brigade was authorized furlough for 30 days on or about July 21, 1863. There was controversy associated with the length of the furlough and rightfully so.

The parole camp was at Dalton, Georgia. The brigade was declared exchanged prior to October. The declaration of the exchange was controversial and once I have research.

It was known as Glenn's regiment at its formation and then changed to Broyles'. Charles E. Broyles was the major of the regiment and the next in the line for command. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander M. Wallace was discharged due to disability in April 1864. Ainsworth and staff may have made this note to keep things uniform and less confusing.

Glenn was not the most upstanding person on the planet. He was quite abusive and had killed a "friend" after the election of November 1860. Complaints were made in the papers on his abuse of civilians in the north Georgia area in the spring of 1862.

Yes, the history of all the regiments of Cumming's brigade is lacking. My ancestors were in Company D, 39th Georgia and I started researching the regiment in 1999 and my research spilled over into the other regiments of the brigade out of the shear need to find other material on the regiment. I ended up doing my Master's thesis on the 39th Georgia and the regiment's desertion rate which was closely followed by the 36th Georgia.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Respectfully,
