Re: The court martial of Colonel Jesse A. Glenn

Mr. Downey,

The charges or specification for Colonel Glenn's court martial did not include desertion. After the trial he moved his family, slaves, and property to Marietta, Georgia and returned. He was arrested but released when the writ of Habias Corpus was reinstated.

Could you direct me to where he was promoted to brigadier general? In reviewing the 137 pages of his compiled military service record and anything in the compiled service records of Confederate General and Staff Officers and nonregimental Non-commissioned officers, I cannot find anything that would indicated he was promoted to brigadier general.

He did have a number of recommendations and endorsements for promotion to include Governor Brown, Major General Carter Littlepage Stevenson, Brigadier Generals Alfred Cumming and Alexander Welch Reynolds, the commander of the 34th Georgia but as noted on a couple of the endorsements, no brigade were available at the time and in particular cavalry brigades.

Respectfully,
