Re: The court martial of Colonel Jesse A. Glenn

Mr. Hodge, Thank you for your information. Your quite correct about the parole camp at Enterprise, Mississippi after Vicksburg.

"The parole camp was at Dalton, Georgia. The brigade was declared exchanged prior to October. The declaration of the exchange was controversial and once I have research."

Your above statement has me a little confused. I am not familiar with the parole camp in Dalton, although it would make sense the 36th Regiment, Georgia Infantry would have had one there since so many of 36th Georgia soldiers were from Whitfield County. Would you know where I could find documentation of this? I'm not disagreeing with you only wanting some type of verification.

I did look at the various companies, history with the 36th Regiment, Georgia Infantry on fold 3 and perhaps one of the better statements was made by Company F on page 33. Company F 36th Regiment, Georgia Infantry (Broyles) stated they were surrendered on July 4, 1863 at Vicksburg and paroled on July 9, 1863. This dovetails with a Private William A. Beck whom I'm doing a biography of in Company H of that regiment. His parole paper is dated July 9, 1863.

According to Company F they left Vicksburg on July 12, 1863 and marched to Enterprise, Mississippi. They left Enterprise, MS on "July 24 by railroad for Atlanta, Georgia by way of Mobile, Alabama." "Company F arrived in Atlanta, Georgia on July 28, 1863." They were paroled for 20 days and then met in Atlanta, Georgia on August 13, 1863 and went into parole camp. "Exchanged on September 12, 1863 and moved our camp to Stone Mountain on September 19, 1863 a distance of 15 miles." This also dovetails with William A. Beck's receipt for clothing on August 18, 1863 and mentions him as a paroled prisoner. Company F also said they were furloughed on July 23, 1863 which I am interpreting as their furlough time started when they left Enterprise, Mississippi.

Of course this is only one company history and not the regiments but I would assume the dates should parallel the rest of the regiment.
