He died December, 1863, behind the lines within Confederate territory. Certainly, the Confederate government would not have shipped his remains home, he would have been buried in the Confederate hospital burying grounds.

Bodies were not brought home, especially those having been buried long before the Federal government regained control of the area.

Somewhat later, when the U. S. National cemetery at Danville was established, all those identified Union troops were re-interred there.

Had the relatives the means, and were aware of the location of his grave site, they, on there own, could have brought his remains home.
