Had a 1st cousin 3 x removed in Washington / Greene County area in upper east Tennessee. She married a Confederate in the 61st Tennessee. He was paroled at Vicksburg. got himself captured again and almost died at Camp Chase, Ohio. By the 1870 census the're living in Johnson County, Iowa ! The name of their township is UNION !!! LOL !!!! Many former Confederates left east Tennessee following the war. Bad feelings between the two sides for a long time ! Most of them went south though !!! LOL !!!
They raised a large family and lived out their days there. My paternal grandmother had two brothers that settled in the Clear Lake, Hamilton County and Kossuth, County Iowa area in the 1920-1930's. ( surname : Blakely )
The Johnny Reb I mentioned was John Martin Justice Co.A 61st Tennessee. Vaughn's Brigade I believe.
