Knowing some general things but little specific to your questions I would suggest that you need to look at the broader community of E. Tenn. Loyalists--if they refugeed where would they go? Likely into what became West Virginia? You also need to consider local recruiting by garrisoning federal units near the area. This was no small thing as the depleted units were hungry for recruits. Sibling enlistment patterns also play a role so if brothers living elsewhere were reachable, locals might go to those units. Again with community, it seems more likely that small squads would set off and enlist together and it is also very probable that they would seek mounted service. Regular recruiting seems unlikely save for USCT recruiting but the pools for former slave recruiting would have been elsewhere methinks. This raises the question of whether E. Tenn. served as a sanctuary for fleeing slaves and then if that manpower pool was then recruited.
