My 3rd, Great-Grandfather John Dempsey Dotson*abt.1833(cousin to members of Napier's Battalion/10th Tenn) was shot as guerrila by troopers of the 12th Tenn cav. US. in Dickson county in retaliation for the murder of a local Union sympathizer. Whom it was belived was killed by Dotson's father-in-law"Wm. D.Willey"; Willey was said to had taunted the Union occupiers, rode his black stallion and waved his rebel hat and eluded capture until they capture/shot him; the same as his son-in-law Dotson. Willey was beleived to have eluded capture with Forrest at Fort Donelson; but no records can prove that
This area of yellow Creek(dickson county) was said to have been a very dangerous place for Union scouts; they were usually fired upon from every house, hill, woods. Information was usually supplied by local guerrillas to Confederate cavalry( number of union troops movements) ect..
Small skirmish's between guerrillas and Union forces took place there.
