Thanks George. I think the men in this company may have decided to return to be partisans again. Jack Gardner's home was behind enemy lines outside of Dover. Most of the others were from Montgomery County and by spring 1863 they were usually behind enemy lines also. I know that Jack Gardner died in Stewart County in 1890, so I got him a VA marker several years ago to replace the small brick marker.
Jack was an artilleryman with Weller's Co. at the Battle of Ft. Henry. They were surrendered and sent to Alton, IL. He signed the oath on 20 March 1862 and returned home. I suspect he joined up with Napier's Batt. after spring planting.
