My ancestor was Andrew Jackson (Jack) Gardner (sometimes appears as J A Gardner). He was from Stewart County, but since it was occupied by spring of 1862, he traveled to Montgomery County to join Co. B of Napier's Battalion.
He fought with Wellers/Taylor's Artillery Co. at Ft. Henry, was surrendered, and took the Oath at Alton, Il. To me, he was a hero for joining Napier's Batt. and risking summary execution if he was ever captured again.
Jack Gardner would surely have been acquainted with your ancestors. Did they survive the War? Did they attend any of the reunions?
