Will,
I found some infor. that may be of interest--Osage Mission schools
enlistment of I.T. & Kansas.

O.H.S Vol 76 An Experiment in Education:The Osage Manual Training
School
Pg 405
Schoenmakers(Indian Agent) urged the Osage to remain loyal to the
the Union, opposing Agent Dorn, who joined the Confederacy and recuited a reported 500 Osage warriors. All Osage boys fifteen who
were enrolled at school joined the Union Army, making a total of 400
Union Osage troops.
Schoenmakers himself believed that his council and common mission school experience of Osage on both sides restrained the Confederate Osage and their Cherokee allies from burning Osage Mission and many towns southern Kansas-I.T.
