Ken,

The wartime photo of Zeke is my current wall paper on my work computer. An interesting source I found on the 14th is: http://books.google.com/books?id=dfgsAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA466&dq=fourteenth+kansas+cavalry&hl=en&sa=X&ei=wv_BUJaVBaaDywHaj4CQCA&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false This book: Military history of Kansas regiments during the war, has a history of the 14th beginning on p. 374; and on the top of p. 138 states that Co. M had a large number of mixed blood Delaware. A search on civilwardata.com gives a roster and reveals Indians in other Companies as well as M. These men from Cos. D & G came from White Cloud Ks., Fort Scott Ks., and Fort Smith Ar. The the majority of Co. M coming from Belmont Ks. So, there may have been multiple Indian Nations represented in this Regt. Very interesting.
