Thanks to all that posted. I've walked the City of Decatur Cemetery for a number of years and when I found the Avary monument, I was intrigued. It is an impressive memorial, at or very near the highest point of the (new) Decatur Cemetery. Located nearby is the monument of Addison Wier, known as "Sarge Plunkett" who served at Gettysburg and to the northwest, the monument of "General" Jimmy Reid Jones, most likely the last Confederate soldier buried in the City of Decatur Cemetery in 1944. I look forward to seeing the photo of Archer Avary and honoring his grave with a flag and flower on Conferderate Memorial Day
There are more than one thousand Confederate veterans buried in the City of Decatur Cemetery (or so I've been told). Their sacrifice should not be forgotten.
