The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Thanks for the reply. What I am finding is that things get pretty mixed up beyond my grandmother's time in my family. Fathers and mothers died leaving children to be boarded out, or sent to orphanages. This is where it gets sticky because my grandmother who lived to be 99 did not want to talk about these things. She had all the documents relating to the Civil War, and they have been lost over the years except for her grandfather's parole and some orders he had. She had wads of confederate money she gave me when I was about 10 years old. This was a bad idea. My mother who cared less about this stuff probably threw it out when I left it on the floor or something.

Do you know of any info on the Second Seminole War? I have a relative who was in that war in 1937-8 and got bounty land for it in 1850. I have the document where he applies for it, but no actual deed. Times were really tough in Georgia right after the war for several decades I think. The only place worse maybe was South Carolina which was the home of the rebellion to Northern eyes. I bet it was hell in Alabama and Mississippi as well. I am new to this site. I just started looking at Ancestry.com via my public library for free and did order a disc on Georgia Confederates.
