I know that William T. Sherman served in Seminole War and I believe that at that time the Seminoles were pretty much decimated except for those hiding in the swamps. I read a biography of W. T. Sherman. He was a strange bird. I think he learned from Seminole War tactics he would go on to use in Civil War in Georgia. They made war on civilians you could say. Total war with view towards annihilation. He was a racist towards both blacks and Indians.
