It is easy to get the names mixed up. My relation was Archer Avery and he was in Captain Archer's unit. This got me a bit confused. I did a family tree thing today and Archer Avery's family is a very old American Virginian family going back at least to 1660. At some point some of the Avery's came to Georgia. They were in Cornwall, England before 1660 and I believe they were pretty well off. In the 18th Century around 1770 one of the Avery's was a judge.

One of those Flanigans must have been pretty charming because he married an Avery in 1840 I think. The Flanigan clan goes back to Gamin Flanigan who was born in America and there it ends. I was told that my 4 X Great was born in Ireland, but it is misty. No body bragged about being Irish in those days even though this was early 19th Century long before Potato famine and the mass migration out of Ireland. My Irish ancestors were protestants which probably means they came to escape the law in Ireland, or sought adventure in the new world perhaps. Anyway the all settled in the South. If you have been to Ireland to can understand why. You get one sunny sky out of ten in winter and summer is not so hot either. I was there in March some years ago and it was freezing and rained every day.
