I am the Great Great Great grandaughter of Ambrose Williams. Ambrose was not the man who signed the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit. Nittucachee supposedly married a white woman and is the father of Ambrose William. It is actually documented that Ambrose was his son. Ambrose and his two siblings were raised by George and Mary Chamness. My grandfather believes that Mary was probably the father of Ambrose and when Nittucachee died Mary married George Chamness. Ambrose grew up under their care and married Sarah Honnel. They had three children: John, Sarah (or Sally), and Jim Williams. They walked to Illinois where he enlisted in the Union army. My grandfather says that most Indians joined the Union and that he probably felt that he should on account of his father, Nittucachee. We have the enlistment papers on Ambrose. He enlisted in Benton, Illinois on February 16th 1864. He died in Pine Bluff Arkansas while patrolling on July 10th 1864. When he died Sarah and the children walked back to Mississippi where she eventually married a Bell. I have the papers where Sarah and Mr. Bell were granted legal guardianship of the three children.

Sarah Williams, the daughter of Ambrose and Sarah Honnel, married William Maddox. They had ten children and the youngest was my grandfathers mother, Era Maddox Lancaster. Era married Paul Lancaster and they had three children: Garvin, Howard, and Max Wade. Max Wade is my grandfather. He and Peggy Johnsey married and had three children: Janet, Fred, and the other child was stillborn. Janet Lancaster is my mother.
