Texas Indians in the Civil War

I am trying to find my great grandfather, Bill Blunt/Blount,his brother William John, and cousin, Frank or Francis Marion Thomason. The two brothers joined with a group of Indians from Polk County, TX. and the cousin from Canton, TX.

I have no idea where to look now that the 22nd Texas Ca. Co. G. appears not to be the home unit. Identity is a problem because Indian men were often mustered in as Indian Bill or Indian John instead of by their last names. So, identity is not so easy. All three men were sent to Arkansas. The Polk County Indians were sent back to participate in the Texas Navy according to our oral history.

Anyone out there who can help me find these men?

Mary Sixwomen Blount
