There were two Blounts in the 27th Texas Cavalry Regiment. They were in Company D which came from either Lavaca or the Red River Counties. The 27th started out with three companies, was given an Arkansas company. Later received another independent Texas company, the Titus Invincibles, which became Company A. Which of the origonal companies was D is questionable. In April of 1862 eight companies were recruited in Morris, Lamar, and Red River from basically the cities of Dangerfield, Clarksville, Paris. The original four companies had come from Lavaca, Hunt, St. Augistine and Dangerfield, Morris county.
These two Blounts were:
Blount, Joseph B., 1st Lt., Co. D, 27th Texas Cavalry Regiment
Blount, John H, PVT, Co D, 27th Texas Cavalry Regiment (Probably brothers)

there was also a Thomason, William H., PVT, Co. F, 27th texas Cavalry Regiment
I think that Company D & F were recruited with the later bunch in April of 1862.
