Interesting. I would almost believe that the slave thought he was then free to go having given all
the service he had to give. I know that was hard on the slave having devoted his life to that relative
yours and probably loving him as his own dear friend.
I think that is pretty much what happened to W. S. Herron and the slave Ross. No one has any idea
what became of Ross other than he did go on to Arkansas with Herron and his new bride, at least that
is what the kin nowadays believe.
In this day and time, it is unusual for us to hear stories such as we have shared. Most White folks find it
hard to believe that he would have named his son after the former slave, but he did.
Respect given is usually respect that has been earned is my opinion.
