I don't know about the arms, but they certainly were not in reserves at Gaines Mill. They were in the Cornfield at Sharpsburg, behind the Stone Wall at Fredericksburg, and in the Wheat Field and Peach Orchard at Gettysburg, on the second day. I would think they were pretty well armed, doing great damage at Fredericksburg. According to Captain Lemon, he used his sword at Knoxville to climb out of the ditch, and got onto the parapet with only his pistol. I imagine he lost it when knocked unconscious with a rifle butt and captured. Colonel Ruff was killed at Knoxville. Stan
