Re: St. Charles Battle aftermath
As I remember this dress it was more of a nightgown and the woman giving the tour said it was worn by a woman killed during the battle. When I got older and talked to some of the oldtimers in the area the true story came out. I was born and raised in Dewitt and my Mother was well acquainted with the story and knew the ancestors of the murdered woman. Just what is that on top of the monument in St Charles anyway? We used to laugh and say it was a fire hydrant since the fire station was so close. Personally I always thought it represented the breech end of a cannon.
