Re: An interesting cross over on Alabama CMSR's

George, thanks for clarifying. "The problem with the CSR files is the file for John W. Black (46). This could be either Junior or Senior. Since they note age 46, one would think Pvt. John’s, Senior, record would result. However, John Juniors records are mainly recorded. Confusing, no?" Yes I agree it did throw me for a loop the first time around but because of the census records and discharge papers he was in my opinion the senior of the two Blacks. If you will go to family search or ancestry using the directions I listed you will see both John Blacks in the same household in the 1860 United States census in Monroe County also.

General Ainsworth and his Staff were fairly darned accurate. Only once in a blue moon have I saw an error, while footnote aka now as fold 3 seems to have many. Case in point, look at the CMSR's J. W. Black, they are way out of order. They start off with his Federal POW records and not his date of enlistment. I am willingly to bet when General Ainsworth and his staff finished with the Confederate CMSR's about 1912 they were in perfect order.

I'm still pointing the finger at footnote or fold3 for listing the age of J.W. Black as age 46 which they got from the discharge papers but as we know now it belonged to another soldier at least in my opinion. I've never been wrong before! LOL It's an understandable mistake and I do applaud them for making copies and making them available for us. If you are showing J.W. Black as being age 46 on the micro-film you were speaking of in the 1970's then I'll take back my finger pointing with fold3. But the cards could have also been put into the wrong jacket prior to 1970. If the micro-film records list J. W. Black as age 46 that is one thing but if the micro-film records just list John Black's discharge papers with J. W. Black's records that is another issue.

More Alabama soldiers are buried at Camp Chase than any other state and Alabama is one of the more difficult of all of the Confederate States insofar as records. So many are missing. Thanks for weighing in on this George, your opinions are always useful and informative and valued.
