Re: An interesting cross over on Alabama CMSR's

Mr. Brooke...your discovery may explain a confused history related to John W. Black. The records at ADAH appear to be for one man. Likewise, a book on the 17th by Wilbur Thompson records but one John W. Black. Our local camp (SCV 1610, Monroeville) has received a couple requests from family members to help sort out the service of John W. Black. The most troublesome entries are the discharge for disability on 26 May 1862 and a subsequent enlistment on 26 Oct 1862. To family members, the elder re-enlisted. To some of us trying to help, there were probably 2 men named John W. Black. The latter died 20 Mar 1865 at Camp Chase where he lies in Row 36, plot 15, grave 1721. However, the family does not accept this despite knowing that the elder would have been almost 50 when captured and imprisoned.
