:Tim, I would say they should have pressed the their advanatage when the Union troops were still in retreat from earlier firefights. Instead they settled in to let reinforcements catch up. This allowed the North to buildup their positions. Also Lee should have never fought a battle where the North's position was so strong, he could have retreated and fought another day, I also think the placement of the cannons was a terrible mistake. But to be honest I don't really know, I'm just guessing.
