What would everybody have thought and what kind of effect would it have had to invade and turn around? Isn't the onus on the attacker in an invasion? Isn't that an essential part of that basic equation when considering or dealing with Napolionic strategy?What were all his options? Continue moving north with Hill and Longstreet. Move east (and south with Ewell). Go back. Move south with all three and live off the land. Stay put and live off the land.
