Heth's (3rd Corps) Missisippi Brigade
Wed Jan 31 09:59:03 2001

Jefferson Davis's nephew Jo Jo had a brigade at Gettysburg that was brand new and put together in Richmond just prior to and an addition to what Heth was given of Hill's old "Light Division". Pender got the bulk of it. An extra division's worth of brigades were put together with troops from outside the Army of Northern Virginia to give Hill P his three division 3rd Corps. In case you didn't know, Anderson came from Longtreet's 1st Corps, Posey (Featherston's) included. Davis from duty in Richmond.

Most of a regiments compliment was so devastated by attrition from the early battles you refer to, it was usually just a remnant and a shell of it's former self. The 2nd & 11th do not show in the Confederate forces at Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville. They were replaced by more Alabama and North Carolina troops in Law's (Fredricksburg) Brigade (Hood's Division). The major reorganization of January further changed the Brigade.

It is a well documented fact. Most of the brigade was green.
