My ancestor, John Henry Newell, was a private and then a major in the 136th, but I can not find any information or detailed history of the unit. Is there any book or website that might tell me of battles fought, etc.? Also, in his Footnote file from the National Archives, there was a reference to a John Mort of the 10th Virginia Infantry, but reading that book, I find no mention of the man, much less why his case was referenced in John Henry Newell's file.
