I can only suggest you obtain her pension application papers, this should provide their marriage date, his service affiliation, affidavits of his army comrades, perhaps, residence, financial status, etc.

On further look at his file, the War Department internal correspondence notes a Phylander S. Tiption as I previously noted. However, more notes state:

"Return shows a T. S. Tipton, Pvt. F. M. Tottys Co. E, Bourlands Border Regt. Texas Cav. (Bolens not fount) Absent to drive beef Aug.31, 1864."

"No record found." [I take this to mean they found no proof of service for Physlander, thus, absent any coaberating evidence of service from a former comrade, this could have been the basis of her pension rejection, not length of marriage]
