Re: P.S. Tipton; Co E, Bourland's Regt

Hi Patti,
I am definitely thrilled to hear from you! I don't believe I've had any harder time finding anyone than I have Phylander Slay Tipton! No wonder neither I nor anyone else I asked could find his unit! There really is no such thing as Loty's Company, Balwin's Texas Cavalry! I went back to the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System after I read your message and still couldn't find him, but I did a regiment search and found Bourland's Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Border Regiment) and searched there for his last name. He is the only Tipton and they have him listed as Private T. S. Tipton in Company E, but no mention of Captain Totty. Between the several variations of his name and the incorrect names of the officers, I would never have found him! I'm sorry to say that I don't have a county or a city for his birthplace and can't find one. I've searched Ancestry, Family Search, and Google. He died in Causey, Roosevelt Co., NM and is buried in Portales Cemetery in Portales, Roosevelt Co., NM. I have a photo of his headstone if you would like that. There are a couple of records on familysearch.org that have his burial place as Anson Co., TX, but that is incorrect. He is right here in Portales, NM. So now I have him as Private Phylander Slay Tipton, Bourland’s Regiment, Texas Cavalry, Totty’s Company E. I can't thank you enough, Patti :o) Cathey
