Tipton, the first is a Regimental Return of August 1864 which records him as a Private in Company E, Bourland's Border Regiment Texas Cavalry, Absent - "To drive beef," the second is reference to a War Department correspondence with the Texas State Confederate Pension Commissioners dated August 22, 1916, which lists his name as Phylander S. Tipton, McCollough's Western Division, Bolen's Reg., B. F. Totty's [F. M. Totty] Company

His widow, Sarah Ann filed a Confederate Widow's Pension Application from Wichita County, it was rejected. Husband Phylander S. Tipton
