Like most all east Tennessee Bradley County was bitterly divided. I've recently learned a common trade among the Blakelys was that of a brick mason. The brothers father and step-father were masons. It stands to reason the family moved around a lot and knew several folk in various counties in Tennessee and probably Scott Co. Va. where William Blakely of the Union 1st Tn Cav was born. Confederate or Union folk acquainted with Henry may have mentioned they heard his brother was with the Yankee army. Both William and his son James ( another brick mason ) left the area following the war. James, by the way, was the last member of the Union 1st Tn wounded in the war. He settled in Alabama of all places for a East Tennessee Yank to go !!!! William went to Kentucky but returned to Sullivan in the 1890's right before he died and is buried in Kingsport.
