Re: Bradley County, Tennessee & the Civil War

Glenn,

In addition to the Myra Inman diary and the other books cited already please also get "Bradley Divided: Bradley County, Tennessee in the Civil War" by Melba Lee Murray. A fine work that cites many local sources.

As another has stated, Cleveland, on the East Tn and Georgia RR and the East Tn and Virginia Railroad, also had the only copper rolling mill in the Confederacy. This area was crossed several times by both sides during the Chattanooga Campaign of November 1863 and the Union cavalry brigade of Eli Long destroyed the rolling mill, rail cars and a lot of track in addition to capturing the brigade wagon trains of General Wright's CS Brigade.

There was a lot of action in that area. The book on the Tennessee brigade in the Vicksburg Campaign, also already mentioned, is excellent!
