Ellison later went to the 39th ( 31st.) and was paroled at Vicksburg. James was in the 62nd and William in the 59th I believe. Tillman Howard Land enrolled in the 39th then went to the 59th. His last card, for Nov-Dec 63 says " deserted, gone to Kentucky. " There he joined the Union 7th Mtd. He, James, and William went to Texas. One of my Land cousins in Monroe Co. sent me a photo of Tillman in his later years along with one of his sons who became a Texas Ranger. I'm from Sullivan County. Got a lot of both sides among my East Tennessee kin. I recently saw a copy of a article from the Jonesboro,Tn newspaper dated about August 65. A group of former Yankees from the 8th Tn Cav. listed names of former rebels in the area ( Washington, Sullivan, & Greene counties ) and more or less gave them a time table to leave or " suffer the consequences." Not a good place to be during or for years after the war !!!! Were your kin harmed in Arkansas ? The northwest part was about like east Tennessee !!!! Lots of " home-grown yankees "
