I find your speculation about John P. Gatewood to be some what misguided. John P. Gatewood was born in 1848 and was 14 when he enlisted in Aug. 1862 at Camp McGinnis and last paid by Capt. Sharp April 10, 1863. I have knowledge of other John Gatewoods in the war at that time but none of them with the John (P.) Gatewood.
