Re: Civilians captured at Ft. Donelson

Kate,

Yes, i would be interested in the 26th Tn. spreadsheet!. I believed that my Mathis family were part Indian from N.C., possibly Cherokee. But my 4th Great Grandfather(Kinchen Mathis) enlisted at Roane County in 1836 in the militia during the Cheokee Removal(maybe family lore was wrong). His nephew also named (Kinchen Mathis and born Roane Co.) 12th Tenn cav. USA was wounded at Pulaski, tenn during a skirmish with Forrest. It is interesting to read about accounts of african-americans who either were pressed into service or volunteered into the C.S. army. As i undertsand some were proud of their service and attended veterans gatherings in the early 1900's. There was a black CS veteran who was a member of my 3rd Great-GrandUncles U.C.V.Atlanta Camp No. 159( Bill Yopp, Drummer 14th Ga.)

Best Regards,
John Dotson Kotila
