Re: Civilians captured at Ft. Donelson

Kate,

Here is someting about a soldier from company "E" 26th Tenn:

Shelby Y. Monday; sustained a wound during the battle of Fort Donelson, died in a makeshifft military hospital in Clarksville,Tn., survived for about a month succumbing to pneumonia.

26th regimental history states: "S.Y. Monday" Killed Fort Donelson Feb.15,1861
------------------------------------------------------

After doing some brief research some on the 26th Tn. Inf.; i found the names of some distant reletives of mine {that i just found out!} that served
with the 26th. From the link that i posted on my previous posting to you; lists a soldier named "Stephen Mathis" also of Company "E" who died at Nashville in 1862. And a soldier named James Mathis of Company "I" killed at Chickamauga. My ancestors lived in Roane County and moved to Dickson county in the 1850's; but left many cousins and relations there. The regiment has other Mathis' listed{relatives of course).

Thanks for posting your interest in the 26th, know i have found more previously unknown ancestors! I believe that my "Mathis" ancestors who moved to Dickson county were "Unionist", having one enlist with the 12th Tenn. Cav. USA in Charlotte,Dickson County. And then other ancestors from that area were with Forrest's cavalry.
