Re: Civilians captured at Ft. Donelson

Thanks, John, I have the basic military stuff, now I'm working on minutiae. Who the individual soldiers and officers in Co E were, why were they there, what happened to them, at least up until their release from Camp Morton.

I'm discovering some interesting things, such as the 1st Lt. who escaped Ft. Donelson by attaching himself to NB Forrest's Cavalry, where he served out the war as a surgeon.

The two brothers, one who was left behind sick and thus not at Ft. Donelson, the one who died at Camp Morton - but the wrong brother's name is on the cemetary records (I've contacted the cemetery about correcting this).

If there were any of their families at Ft. Donelson would be something I'd like to know, too.

My own gg-grandfather was apparently there unwillingly - he later lied his way out of the CSA, moved his family to KY and joined a Union Cav regiment. Right now I'm working more on the Confederate side.

If anyone has any info on free blacks in TN before the war, too, I'm researching that as well.

The CW may be the most intensely researched event in history, yet even an amateur like myself is capable of discovering new information, apparently.
