Ken I basically agree. I've got a couple of questions though. I was under the impression that Phillips et al left Ft Smith and pressed on to Hillabee directly not stopping at Ft Gibson due to the lack of forage. This was an ardous push for the unit.
I've got two different routes for the Dragoon trail. Interestingly both actually cross the Middle Boggy within 5 miles east of current day Ada. Every way shape or form that I plot mileages, they fit better with one of the Middle Boggy crossings, whether the Dragoon Tail, Fort Arbuckle road or Texas Road than if I put the conflict further south on Clear Boggy near Cochran's. There is a school located at the Middle Boggy crossing near route 1/Steedman on the 1929 Topo labeled "Old School". I think that is the Academy/Cochran'sAcademy listed on the OR map and others given a geographical fit. I don't think it has much to do with the record or location of the battle, just nice to glue down another historical point. And to Elmer Route 1 is a much bettter approximation of the Texas road.
